Being held this Thursday and Friday (September 1 and 2) at the Taree Uniting Church Hall in Albert Street, the society’s secretary/treasurer Terry Russ said this time of year brings many of the natives into bloom.
Between 150 and 200 orchids of varying types are expected to be entered this year, all vying to impress the panel of three judges.
Terry said the weather plays a fair part in the preparation of orchids but adds that growers need to be a “little bit lucky” on show day that their orchids are properly out in bloom.
Plants and their foliage also need to be clean and disease free.
The community is encouraged to come along and enjoy the orchids and can watch potting demonstrations as well as talk to members of the orchid society.
“We have a sales table so people can buy orchids or they can come in and have a look,” said Terry.
The Red Dove Cafe will also be operating.
Manning River Orchid Society (which has between 45 and 50 members stretching from the Central Coast to Kempsey) holds two orchid shows each year, one in winter and one in spring, and attracts visitors from a broad section of the public and across all ages.
The Spring Orchid Show will be held between 9am to 4pm this Thursday and Friday, with potting demonstrations between 10.30am and 1pm both days.
Entry is $2.
