The boys – already the State champions in the traditional form of the game, splashed their way through driving rain to win eight pool games before accounting for Cowra in the final 20-6.
Coach Chris Steinmetz said Von Ryan McLennan and Mhailkai Mercy were outstanding in all matches.
The boys now head to St Marys on September 8 for the State final of the NSW Catholic and Independent Schools competition, where they’ll meet Christian Brothers Lewisham – the side Joeys beat in the State All Schools final in July.
Joeys’ girls, under the coaching of Tahnee French won three pool games before taking out the quarter final and semi-final. They then proved too good for Blairmount Public School from the Campbelltown area in the decider, where Lucy Green was named player of the match.
The team was Nyokah Dumas (captain), Lucy Green, Sienna Limpic, Tully Crossingham, Haylee Brabant, Maricki Saunders, Caitlin Rodgers, Hannah Chicken, Kirra Simon, Lakeesha Cochrane.
While acknowledging the performance of both teams, Mr Steinmetz said the girls were tremendous.
“We only started rugby league for girls here a couple of years ago,’’ he explained.
“And a lot of the teams they played against were much bigger than them. It was a great effort.’’
