Kombi festival fast approaching
THE October long weekend is fast approaching and Old Bar is expecting a huge influx of visitors for the annual two day Old Bar Beach Festival. The amazing sight and sound of the much loved VW Kombi will be back in town.
Saturday afternoon at 4pm all Kombis and Transporters are invited (free of charge) to assemble on the Old Bar Airstrip for a spectacular parade travelling west along Old Bar Road for approximately 10kms to the Pacific Highway Roundabout, travel around the roundabout back into Old Bar Road and return to Old Bar Beach Festival.
This has proved extremely popular with the VW owners and spectators attracting approximately 130 Kombis/Transporters last year.
In previous years the convoy would continue north along the Highway and return to Old Bar via Cundletown, Chatham, Taree and Taree South. Due to the large number of vehicles it was too difficult to keep the group together.
The Sunday of the Festival is the main day to view the Kombis. They assemble from 7am around the sports oval alongside the Old Bar Airstrip in an attempt to have the largest gathering of VW Kombis and Transporters in Australia. Registration is $10 entry fee to show your VW Kombi or Transporter.
The event seems to grow larger each year, with approximately 250 vans expected this year. There is an official count at 1pm and trophies are awarded for the best vehicles judged in several different categories.
