MidCoast Council promotes 11 of the region’s op shops on its Manning Valley tourism website www.visitmanningvalley and urges people to “discover a treasure, delight in a bargain and connect with our community”.
It invites people to “wander the heart of Taree and then trip to towns and villages from the country to the coast. Make it all about the shopping or make it part of the experience of each town or village . . . this is the Manning Valley Op Shop Hop.”
The website lists the location, phone number and opening hours of op shops in Taree, Harrington, Old Bar, Nabiac and Wingham.
National Op Shop Week is the brainchild of Jon Dee and DoSomething, a charity which aims to make it easier for people to get involved in community volunteering.
DoSomething will launch National Op Shop Week this Friday, August 19 and recently announced its ambassador for 2016 is Costa Georgiadis from ABC TV's Gardening Australia.
