The 22-year-old former Taree High student is a designer, illustrator and photographer.

He is completing his Masters in Creatives Practice through Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. 

Tyhe’s masters project is titled ‘whataboutfish’.

The project, which will consist of a website and two books, aims to generate awareness on the effects of overfishing and unsustainable fishing practices on the Great Barrier Reef.

In December Tyhe will travel to Queensland’s Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island to document the environment and the people. 

The backbone of Tyhe’s research is, “design can change people's attitudes, and behaviours that can positively effect the world”. 

“Design is such a powerful medium for conveying big messages because it's so visual. A lot of what cannot be understood by words can be understood by images, and elements that make that image up.”

Tyhe will use a combination of illustration, graphic design and photography to create his body of work.

The drawings involve a fusion of still life animal drawings, geometric shapes and marbled colour. 

“I've always been drawn to shapes and interesting structures, even in my photography, which was where I started,” Tyhe said.

“I find them all so interesting, and when I started drawing with geometric structures rather than flowing structures, I became much more comfortable with my abilities. 

“I'm not the strongest illustrator, but I like to think I have an interesting style that is representative of me.”

Tyhe is currently a working as a design at a printer in Wagga Wagga. He would like to work in an agency one day for larger clients. 

“I'm also considering doing my PHD, so later down the track I can teach the future generations of designers at university. But that'll be after a bit of a break, 5.5 years of study is enough straight after high school!”
