A low pressure system is expected to develop off the NSW coast generating heavy rain and possible flash flooding throughout the Mid North Coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology have issued a flood watch for possible minor flooding on the Macleay, Hastings and Manning river catchments and a severe weather warning for the Mid North Coast for damaging winds, heavy rain, abnormally high tides and damaging surf.
Acting NSW SES Mid North Coast Region Controller, Tony Day said, “We are particularly concerned about the damaging winds, large five metres seas and king tides on Wednesday night that will increase the risks of flash and riverine flooding in the lower parts of the Macleay, Hastings, Camden Haven and Manning catchments.”
Flooding is initially expected to affect low-lying farmland and local roads near rivers and creeks.
Land owners and farmers adjacent to rivers and creeks should monitor river levels and, if necessary be ready to relocate or secure farm machinery, irrigation pumps and other equipment.
People are also reminded to:
- Plan/consider when to move livestock as roads may close early.
- If necessary relocate or move livestock to higher ground.
- Never drive ride or walk through floodwater
Information on how residents can prepare for severe weather can be obtained by visiting the NSW SES website www.ses.nsw.gov.au .
