The YMCA NSW-run centre is assembling the new ‘Y Manning Youth Committee’ to take the lead in deciding what programs and events young people in the region want.
Anyone between the ages of 14-19 is encouraged to come along to the first committee meeting on Thursday, July 21.
“We know there is a need for young people to have a space to gather with their friends, where they feel safe to talk about what matters to them,” said CEO Leisa Hart.
“The Y Manning Youth Committee is about opening up the centre to our young people while giving them the power to lead projects that encourage positive choices amongst their peers. It’s part of YMCA NSW’s commitment to building healthier, happier and more connected communities.”
Some ideas the committee will consider include putting on live music, an outdoor cinema, ‘Friday night Chill Outs’ for youth to use the gym, have a swim, a game of ping pong or water volleyball after the centre normally closes, or simply to listen to some loud tunes, have a feed and a few laughs with friends.
Interested young people aged 14-19 are encouraged to come along to the session on Thursday, 21 July from 5-7pm at the Manning Aquatic Leisure Centre, Manning River Drive. Pizza will be supplied.
