The work of renowned cinematographer Jim Frazier will be on display alongside the work of sisters Gina and Sonya Varagnolo at Cafe Mediterrano throughout July and August.
Jim, an Oscar and Emmy award winning wildlife filmmaker, was full of praise for the sisters’ work.
“It’s just the most knock-out Aboriginal art I think I’ve ever seen,” he said.
“The level of detail, without a single dot out of place, it is just perfect.”
The sisters’ dot paintings will appear alongside Jim’s photography and crystal artworks.
There’s no central theme of the exhibition, but all three of the artists have contributed pieces involving butterflies.
Jim’s work includes butterfly photography, much of it stemming from his book, Butterflies on my Mind.
After being heavily involved with Sir David Attenborough filming wildlife for many years, Jim developed many unqiue techniques and lenses, used to produce the artwork on display.
Jim’s other work on display will be his crystal creations, created from a pain-staking process where natural crystals are dissolved into a liquid solution which is then brushed onto a glass plate.
As the solution dries out, the crystals start to grow and develop and using a variety of tools, the crystals can be delicately shaped to produce an array of different forms.
The next part of the process is the coloration and photographic process.
The crystals can then be illuminated with back lights to present any colour.
The different work of the three artists combine to bring a unique range to viewers.
“It really works well,” Jim said.
Cafe Mediterrano is located at 232 Victoria Street, Taree.
