Goatmeat from our shores to the US has more than doubled over the past decade, with 18,000 tonnes being sent to the US in 2015.
According to Catherine Golding, Foodservice business development manager for Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) in the US, Australian goatmeat makes up 98 per cent of the imported product in the US market.
Ms Golding said the steady growth in its popularity in the US is due to increasing immigration, particularly from Africa and Latin America, where goatmeat is enjoyed.
The boost is also due to growing interest from millennial diners – those aged between 18-34 years old - in ethnic cuisines and alternative proteins as well as sustainable and lean meat choices. Goat appears on 4pc of menus in the US, and according to recent research MLA commissioned by Datassential, its penetration on menus has grown 7pc in the past year.
