The book shares Marie Byles’ remarkable life story, a powerful and compelling narrative about human rights, conservation, ecology, feminism and spirituality.
In 1924, Marie Byles became the first woman allowed to practise law in NSW and as a legal advisor for women’s organisations, she helped change legislation that discriminated against women’s rights in marriage, divorce and the guardianship of their own children.
While the lure of fame and fortune in being the first woman to practise law in NSW may have been tempting, Marie’s appreciation and respect for nature and love of mountaineering meant that she devoted herself to the conservation of the Australian environment.
To find out more about this inspiring woman, locals are invited to come along to Anne McLeod’s author talk. The event is free to attend and you can grab your tickets by visiting www.manningvalleylibraries.com.au.
