MidCoast Council has drafted a Local Strategy. In its draft form the strategy is a snapshot of how the Manning Valley might evolve for our future generations.
It includes a focus on our changing population, enhancing our region, opportunities for rural areas, and strategies to facilitate business growth.
Over recent weeks, the MidCoast team has spent time with residents in Harrington, Old Bar, Wingham, Hallidays Point and Taree sharing information about current trends across the region, how these trends will impact the Manning Valley over time, and proposed strategies to manage this change and build a sustainable future.
Richard Pamplin, senior leader planning and environmental services (Taree office), has been pleased with the response from local communities.
“We’ve had some very meaningful discussions with people from all walks of life during the information sessions, and we’re now well-positioned to fine-tune the draft Local Strategy. What’s very apparent is a shared vision that our region’s natural assets are protected, and that we provide a solid platform for future generations to be able to live and thrive here”, he said.
“To have a roadmap in place is really important moving forward – it’s an assurance to our current and future residents that we’re working towards clear priorities for the growth and development of the Manning Valley, while building in flexibility to meet the needs of our community as it grows and changes.”
The draft Local Strategy is available to review online at www.taree.cc/ourfuture, where community members are encouraged to leave their feedback, before submissions close on Monday 27 June.
