On Friday, June 24 snow fell on the Barrington and the winter chill crept its way to Taree TAFE’s campus.
Luckily, students and teachers kept warm by wearing beanies as part of a Beanies for Brain Cancer fundraiser.
Early childhood student Ashley Doorey organised the fundraiser in collaboration with TAFE and her fellow students.
Ashley lost her mother to brain cancer in 2008.
To promote the fundraiser at TAFE Ashley bravely spoke to classes across the campus about her experience.
“Everyone went quiet and listened to what I had to say,” said Ashley.
A barbecue and bake sale drew in around 150 students and teachers.
VET for schools co-ordinator Kim Clarke and head teacher for early childhood Sam Lazzarotto said students and teachers were happy to help Ashley and her cause.
“I couldn’t of done everything, without everyone’s help,” said Ashley.
Throughout the week teachers also had lunches with donations going towards Ashley’s cause.
