The Tigers are currently two points clear of second placed Port Macquarie.
Lewis reasons if Wingham can beat the Breakers tomorrow and the Bulls they’ll give themselves a handy cushion going into the back half of the season.
“If we can win these two games we could still afford to lose four of our last six matches and still finish in the top two,’’ Lewis explained.
However, Wingham’s chances of beating the Breakers at Wingham tomorrow afternoon have been dealt a blow.
The Tigers will be without two of their best forwards, Shannon Ellem and Joel Kliendienst. Both have work commitments.
Further complicating the situation is an Achilles injury that could sideline halfback Trent Green, who was a late withdrawal from last week’s match. Green was due to have scans yesterday and Lewis wasn’t too optimistic he’ll be playing tomorrow.
The news is potentially more dire for representative back Thomas Dooker, who aggravated a knee injury in the win over Old Bar last start. Dooker was also due to visit the doctor this week but Lewis fears he will be sidelined indefinitely.
“Tate Grofos will come onto the bench and I’ll look to bring a couple of other young boys up, but we’re struggling a bit with injuries,’’ Lewis said.
