Canberra author Karen Viggers' novel The Lightkeeper's Wife has won a booksellers' literary prize in France, the Prix Litteraire: Les Petits Mots des Libraires. The Lightkeeper's Wife won the "Discovery Novel" section (roman Decouverte), which is an award for a new writer published in France. The pocket book edition (which came out in March) sold 100,000 copies in two months and has been reviewed in Le Figaro and on France TV. La Memoire des embruns, as it is called in France, tells the story of Mary, who returns to Bruny Island in wild south-eastern Australia, Tasmania, and is hiding a family secret.
