The winner of the orchestra’s Quaver Scholarship for the year, Nick started playing trumpet when he was seven and these days playing the brass instrument makes up an important part of his everyday life.
As well as playing music at school, Nick has furthered his music education by taking private lessons in out-of-school hours with teachers Lynne Christie, Wilbur Cross and Trish O’Hearn.
Some of Nick’s favourite pieces are Minnie the Moocher, Oye Como Ya and Solo de Concours.
When Nick is not practising for Sinfonia or school, he likes to listen to rock, punk rock and alternative music.
He also enjoys playing jazz pieces and being able to play with articulation.
Nick joined the ranks of Sinfonia eight months ago and joins his dad who plays drums and his mum who plays guitar and clarinet.
His favourite trumpeters are James Morrison and Louie Armstrong, who inspire him to make a career out of music.
Nick plans to study a Bachelor of Music at university.
In addition to playing the trumpet, Nick also enjoys singing, playing the drums and the guitar.
He is a student at St Clare’s High School, having begun his schooling at Holy Name Primary School in Forster, near to where he lives.
