Mr Green made the decision because he doesn’t think there is enough challenge in the role he has been transferred into. He was Gloucester Shire Council’s General Manager (GM) until the forced merger on May 12, which saw him moved into the deputy position.
Forbes Shire Council is almost double the size of Gloucester with a population of close to 10,000, giving Mr Green the chance to further his professional development.
He has delayed his start date to July 4 in order support his current staff with the transition into the interim operational structure of the new council.
“I’m confident the Gloucester staff will have a good future in the new organisation,” Mr Green said.
He believes the multiskilled capacity of his staff that is required for a small council will make them an asset to the new council, further acknowledging the staff’s contribution and commitment to work above and beyond their duties.
In regard to the interim general manager of MidCoast Council Glenn Handford, Mr Green says he is a very good manager who builds a strong team around him, consults and delegates well.
“What I’ve seen so far, from an operational point of view, the merger will be successful,” Mr Green said.
During the four years Danny Green was Gloucester Council’s GM he has sought to bring transparency to the council’s financial position. He completed 44 presentations throughout the region over an 18 month period. He assisted in selling off excess council property, including the subdivision of Reeves Estate. Mr Green has also worked to get the aged care facility off the ground.
He said it was difficult to do day to day operational activities in an already under-resourced council while working on response submissions for the Rocky Hill mine and dealing with local government in regard to the council merger.
He thanked the councillors, who worked well with a difficult financial situation and commended them on working harmoniously.
