Narelle, from Kimbriki near Burrell Creek, attended a milk rally in Wauchope last week where around 150 people voiced their concerns on milk price cuts to deputy Prime Minister and leader of The Nationals Barnaby Joyce.
Mr Joyce was in the area making funding annoucements, pending his government’s appointment in the upcoming Federal election.
Narelle said Mr Joyce was “nice” and happy to chat, however she hopes he puts his words to action.
“He talks as if he will be working on changes, but we will see if he puts words into action,” she said.
Last week Mr Joyce announced a $555-million package, where dairy farmers can take up low-rate concessional loans.
Mr Joyce told ABC News, "Farmers will be able to borrow $1 million or half of what they owe, whichever is the lesser, so that they can assist themselves to get through this crisis."
However Narelle is concerned, “the low interest loans would only put farmers more into debt.”
“We told him we do not want tax payers money through levies - just a fair viable price paid for our quality product.”
Narelle would like to see Mr Joyce work with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to urge supermarkets to stop selling $1 milk.
“Farmers would like to thank the public for standing up and supporting us farmers,” said Narelle.
“It is very comforting.”
