Jackson Murphy and Samantha Clenton were both airlifted from Taree Airport after being stabilised on-track by ambulance officers. 

Murphy suffered suspected hip, rib, sternum and neck injuries in the fall,  while Clenton suffered suspected leg and collarbone fractures, after Clenton's horse Bazza's Boy fell during the apprentice race, kick-starting a chain reaction.

Nyssa Burrells and Kaylee Kirkwood were also injured in the fall and have been transported to Port Macquarie Hospital.

A fifth rider who fell, Taylor Marshall, escaped serious injury. 

Bazza's Boy was euthanised after the race.

Punters.com.au also reported that Travis Wolfgram was concussed when his mount, Can Dominate, attempted to jump the carnage, his head rearing back and striking the jockey.

Chairman of Taree-Wingham Race Club Greg Coleman said the fall "does put it in perspective how dangerous the industry can be". 

He praised the response of ambulance services, with five ambulances in total attending the scene.  

The fall occurred on the same stretch of track that claimed the life of jockey Peter Birchall in a race in January 1990. 

UPDATE 2.18pm: Taree-Wingham Race Club chairman Greg Coleman said there were five jockeys down in the first race at Taree Racecourse.

Four were taken away by ambulance.

Taylor Marshall was brought back to the jockey's room uninjured. Two of the riders will be flown to John Hunter Hospital. The other two will be transported to the trauma unit at Port Macquarie Hospital.

FOUR jockeys were injured in a massive race fall at the first turn in the opening event at Taree-Wingham Race Club's TAB meeting on Monday.

Bazza's Boy (Samantha Clenton) was the first to come to grief with Blinkin Rules (Jackson Murphy) and Casino Bride (Nyssa Burrells) both falling over the top of that horse. As a consequence, Lady Lobban (Kaylee Kirkwood) and Nonino (Taylor Marshall) were badly interfered with with both jockeys being dislodged.
