The weather was superb and the course was in fantastic condition.
Olivia Wilson from Golf New South Wales and her dedicated team of rules officials and marshals did a great job unveiling to a degree the incredible amount of work that goes into staging a major State-wide competition such as this.
The three round 54-hole was won by Logan Toms from Moore Park Golf Club with a three round two under par total of 208 (69, 72 and 68).
Logan is a first class consistent golfer with a strong record of achievement in this and other similar tournaments.
Second went to Gavin Fitzgerald from Moruya Golf Club with a three round total of 211 (71, 71 and 69). One shot further back (212) was Daniel Nesbitt, Moore Park, with rounds of 72, 68 and 72 in third place. Fourth spot went to Andy Campbell (213 - 77, 65 and 71) while Taree's own Matthew Walz, the club champion in 2014, ran into fifth place with rounds of 71, 72 and 71 for a total of 215.
The three man team of Logan Toms, Daniel Nesbitt and Warwick Boys from Moore Park won the men's teams event with a three round total of 416 or four under par, a distinguished performance indeed from a club with a fine record of achievement in amateur golf.
Daylight away at 431 were Dillyn Burazin, Dean Neill and Jeffrey Barnes of Dunheved Golf Club. The team from Shelley Beach Golf Club, Ryan Edwards, Shane Quick and Chris Haynes were third (434) edging Taree's Matthew Walz and Ben Marron (434) into fourth place on a countback. Two shots further back on 436 in fifth place were the team from Cromer Golf Club, Anthony Bradley and Chris Neville.
As reported on Wednesday Jan Chrichton from the Killara Golf Club won the women's championship with a two-round 36-hole score of 157 (82+75).
She was two shots ahead of second placed Lucie Quilliam (159) from Moore Park Golf Club. The best of the three Taree contestants was Sally Geary whose 176 put her in ninth place overall.
Christine George was three shots further back in 13th place and Cindy Googh 17th.
In the team event, in which the best two scores aggregate to a team total in each round (maximum of three players per team), the winners were Moore Park Golf Club (311) and runners up were Killara Golf Club (312) a very creditable performance with only two members in their team. Taree women did much better in the team event with Sally Geary, Christine George and Cindy Gooch just four shots back from the lead team (316) in fifth place on a count back.
All in all, Club Taree Golf distinguished itself with the quality of the course presented for the tournament and the efforts of its men and women golfers.
