A recent makeover of the federal electorate boosted its size by more than 4000 square kilometres and added and subtracted a few communities from its borders.
In 2013 the National Party secured the seat with candidate Dr David Gillespie and the job description required him to represent the people who live in Crescent Head in the north to the southern boundaries of the former Greater Taree City and Gloucester councils in the south and inland to the western boundaries of Greater Taree, Port Macquarie - Hastings and Kempsey Shire councils.
The main towns included Bonny Hills, Crescent Head, Gloucester, Harrington, Kendall, Lake Cathie, Laurieton, North Haven, Old Bar, Port Macquarie, Taree, Wauchope and Wingham. It covered 11,991 sq kilometres.
In 2016 the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) acted to change its borders and in the upcoming 2016 election, candidates for the seat of Lyne will be seeking to win the votes of people in new communities located in a area of 16,099 square kilometres.
The AEC describes Lyne as an area from Ballengarra in the north to Paterson and Karuah in the south the main towns include Bonny Hills, Bulahdelah, Dungog, Forster, Gloucester, Gresford, Harrington, Hawks Nest, Lake Cathie, Lansdowne, Laurieton, Nabiac, North Haven, Old Bar, Paterson, Smiths Lake, Stroud, Taree and Wauchope.
