Ivan, a trampoline gymnast, will travel to Melbourne alongside fellow Taree PCYC Gymaroos Mahalia Adamson and Sophie Watson after the three were selected in the NSW side.
It's not the first time that Ivan, 18, has competed at State level, after he made the side two years ago.
"It's a fair bit harder, you don't know what other people have been working on," Ivan said of the step-up to State level.
Ivan first started doing trampoline gymnastics occasionally in primary school.
During his early high school years he was involved with the Taree PCYC's holiday program doing the same sport, and when he was asked to come back, he did so with gusto.
He's now been seriously practicing for three years and trains three days a week at the Taree PCYC.
With his sport of choice involving some high-flying acrobatics, the potential is there for some spectacular crashes.
"Sometimes you get hurt, it depends how badly you crash," he smiled.
When asked what he enjoys about the sport, Ivan said the travel was an attractive feature.
"It's a good experience, you get to travel."
Ivan's selection in the NSW side has seen him selected as the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Week, earning a $50 open order from Iguana.
Both Mahalia and Sophie will be recognised for their efforts in upcoming editions of the Times.
