Councillors voted four to four on whether to accept the proposed site, with mayor Paul Hogan using his casting vote in favour of the Fotheringham Park location.
Crs Trent Jennison, Peter Epov, David West and Robyn Jenkins voted against the proposed site, citing concerns about the accessibility of the area and nearby amenities.
Crs Hogan, Alan Tickle, David Keegan and Brad Christensen, in voting for the proposal, deferred to the expertise of the Touched by Olivia foundation, whose preferred site was Fotheringham Park.
Greater Taree City Council has partnered with Touched by Olivia, a national charity, to fundraise and construct the play-space and has held consultations with local children and community members to discuss the design of the project.
These conversations are continuing on the Friends of Livvi's Place Taree Facebook page and locals are invited to join in and post ideas and photos of what they'd like to see in the park www.facebook.com/groups/livvisplacetaree.
Council's executive leader for corporate support, Laura Black, is happy with how the consultation is going and now that the location has been decided, is excited to move onto the next step.
"Touched by Olivia is continuing to get ideas from our community and is starting to work on the design of the play-space, we've applied for additional grant funding on top of the allocated $150,000, and now it's up to the community to work together on fundraising for the play-space. The end result will be a fantastic outcome for the whole community, and even better, making it a reality will be a real team effort," said Laura.
Touched by Olivia has already created 18 inclusive play-spaces across Australia and have a mission to make sure communities are inclusive.
A 'Livvi's Place' in Taree will be a place for residents and visitors of all ages, stages and abilities to meet, socialise, connect with their community and make new friendships in a safe and play-filled environment.
To assist in reaching the required funding, Touched By Olivia has set-up a fundraising website that gives community members and groups the opportunity to donate by purchasing a paver.
"This is a great way to not only contribute to getting this important project off the ground, but the personalised pavers serve as a lasting reminder of the part you played in bringing Livvi's Place Taree to life," added Laura.
