Now the society wants to know more about the recipient.
A medallion, inscribed "Lower North Coast Competition 1920, J Maher" is all the information known.
"We found it when we were cleaning up here,'' society president Barbara Waters explained.
"I know that Paddy Maher was a very good footballer from around that era. So I wonder if J Maher is any relation.''
Paddy Maher toured England and France with the 1929 Australian rugby league Kangaroos. He was born at Pampoolah and went to school at Taree High.
However, in 1920 rugby union was dominant. It was not until 1922 that rugby league started. It's not know what clubs were involved in the Lower North Coast competition or who J Maher played with.
However, anyone with information can contact Barbara through the historical society.
