A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with burns to 80 per cent of his body after a petrol tin he was carrying exploded near Wingham.

Emergency services were called around 3pm on Saturday afternoon, April 9, after a petrol tin being carried by a 53-year-old man ignited at a Cedar Party property.
It is understood that vapours from the tin may have led to the container igniting.
The man sustained widespread burns to 80 per cent of his body, including his chest, arms, legs and face.
He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.
