A goal keeper, Caitlin was named in the Australian side following the national championships played in Penrith. Caitlin turns 13 this year.

She is the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Year, earning a $50 open order at Iguana.

Caitlin managed to impress selectors despite her side, Northern NSW, not winning a match. She said the team was competitive and most matches were close, but Australian selection did come as a shock.

Caitlin will be away for 12 days, with the tour to take in coaching clinics along with a tournament against other international sides. This will be her first time overseas. Caitlin spends much of her year in goals playing either football or futsal.

Last year Caitlin played keeper for the Football Mid North Coast under 12 side in the premier league against teams from the Newcastle/Hunter area. She tried out for the side on the recommendation of her coach after she made the Hunter schools side.

Playing with FMNC required training four nights a week at Taree or Port Macquarie, with one night a dedicated goal keeper tuition at Port Macquarie. FMNC eventually finished third.

Caitlin was later named in the Northern NSW side to contest the State championships where they again finished third.

She then trialled successfully for the FMNC under 14s to play in the Women's Premier League this year. This will again require training at Port Macquarie and matches every second weekend in the Newcastle area, although she doesn't mind the travel.

"It's relaxing,'' she said.

Caitlin started playing soccer when she was five with Cundletown, moving into goals when she was eight.

She has no preference for soccer or futsal. "Futsal's a lot faster but soccer's more open,'' she explained.
