ABORIGINAL women in the Manning Valley who promote reconciliation could be in the running to win the title of NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year - if they are nominated in the inaugural award.

The deadline for nominations is January 13 and this week member for Port Macquarie and NSW Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Leslie Williams, issued a reminder to the community to submit applications.
According to the selection criteria, the award is "for an Aboriginal woman who has promoted reconciliation and cohesion by improving relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This could include Aboriginal women working in any sector or field such as business, government, community or academia."
Nominees for the NSW Aboriginal Women of the Year must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, female, an Australian citizen and at least 18 years of age on 9 March 2016.
Nominations will also close for the following Women of the Year awards:
o Premier's Award for Woman of the Year
o A.H. Beard's Community Hero Award
o Harvey Norman's Young Woman of the Year Award
o REX Airlines' Regional Woman of the Year Award
