POLICE from the Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command praised revelers after a successful New Year's Eve operation was held, with the majority of tourists and locals well behaved on the beach front areas of the command.

The Taree area was "relatively quiet" and police said it was pleasing to see that drivers heeded the warnings to make plans not to drive after drinking with no drink drivers detected during the operation.
There were 15 people arrested in the Forster area for a range of offences relating to alcohol or drugs including eight people charged for offensive behaviour, three people charged for offensive language, four people charged for possessing prohibited drugs, three people charged for refusing a police direction to move on, one male charged for assaulting a police dog, and one person charged for possessing a knife in a public place.
Other incidents recorded in the area included a 30-year-old detected speeding on the Pacific Highway near Moorland at midnight.
Officers checked his speed at 185kph in a 110kph sign posted area.
The male, a Sri Lankan national, was driving on an international licence and was issued a fine for $2306 and his driving privileges in NSW were suspended.
At about midday on New Year's Eve police attended a camping ground on The Lakes Way south of Forster and moved about 30 people out of the area for anti-social behaviour at the request of the camp supervisor.
According to police there were no issues and the group left the area heading back to their homes in the Hunter area.
