The focus areas, decided at its latest meeting in Taree are fundraising and resources, providing needed equipment, and lobbying and advocacy, especially where there are gaps in services or eligibility challenges for people.
Judy Hollingworth, the group's chairperson, said three working groups were formed by the members at the meeting to begin taking action in these three areas.
Trish Lowe, who heads the Taree Community Health team as its acting clinical nurse consultant, Palliative Care briefed the meeting. Trish and her team members Judy Aird and Sue Tait offered input on how things have worked in the Forster area over recent years, together with similarities and differences in the Manning Valley. This helped clarify for members what plans and actions the working groups should prioritise in 2016.
"We really appreciate the guidance of the Community Health nurses and other palliative care practitioners. While this is a complex field our very enthusiastic members have begun the necessary learning and planning and we will make a strong start to 2016" said Ms Hollingworth.
"The community support and interest that we have been shown since we held our public meeting in July is wonderful. The Manning Valley community continues to offer help and to ask to join in on our work. Membership is always open."
She invited people interested to contact her or attend the group's meeting to find out more.
The next Push for Palliative meeting, following the Christmas break, will be on Tuesday February 16 at Valley Skills for Life Meeting Room, 5-9 Elizabeth Avenue, Taree.
