Night Bazaar committee members were informed by Shultz Real Estate that they counted around 4000 walk through Centerpoint Arcade, with more expected on the street.
The committee felt extremely lucky it didn’t rain, but were aware they could have seen a drop in potential numbers from wet weather weary residents staying away.
Logistically things ran a lot smoother this year, with extra time allocated on either side of the event to spread out the crowd.
“People stayed a lot longer this year,” said committee member and entertainment program co-ordinator Rosie Smith.
Rosie’s mainly local line up of entertainment was a hit amongst attendees and included buskers, musical acts on the main stage, a flash mob from Andrea Rowsell Academy of Dance, Phillipino dancers and stilt walkers.
“I was gob-smacked with the reaction - everyone loved the local stuff,” said Rosie, who allowed longer sets of 30 minutes to one hour sets on the main stage.
“They deserve the time to really put on a show and entertain with what they’ve got to offer.”
The addition of a bigger stage outside Bing Lee made for a central point along the street for entertainment.
However this central point was directed to the the top of the street near Pulteney Street when Iguana Surfwear put on their popular fashion parade.
Rosie commended the store for its use of lights and rainbow flags to decorate their end of the street, and hopes other businesses will get on board like this at future Night Bazaars in Taree.
Market and food stall holders enjoyed a constant rate of customers throughout the night.
With an expectation of huge numbers, food stalls were well equipped with plenty of food, variety and prices for all budgets.
Street food was warmly welcomed by attendees with many casually sitting down and enjoying it in the street.
Night Bazaar committee member Annette O’Rourke, who also co-ordinates the market and food stalls, said she has received nothing but positive feedback from stalls, with some already booking their spots for next year.
“I think they like that the committee members really get into it and help them out too.”
