According to chief inspector Christine George of Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command the driver was in shock but a satisfactory condition when she was put in the ambulance to Port Macquarie Hospital.
A spokesperson for Taree Ambulance explained Port Macquarie Hospital has a dedicated trauma team, and this was the reason behind sending her there.
"She was very lucky," said the chief inspector.
"There were not many cars around and she missed a tree by a few metres."
It took emergency services around one hour to get the woman safely out of the vehicle.
"There was a little difficulty in getting her out because the car was lying near a tree," explained the chief inspector.
"We also need to stablise our patients before we move them."
The chief inspector said there is no indication as of yet what caused the incident.
Traffic along Old Bar Road is now cleared.
