Work on the fountain was completed last week, with the official re-dedication to take place on Saturday, October 31 at 2pm.
Darcy Elbourne, senior vice president of the Taree RSL, said that the fountain was not only a valuable memorial to air force personnel but also a useful addition to the functionality of the park.
"While it compliments our remembrance precinct, it is also important to park usage," he said.
The fountain is wheelchair accessible and even has a secondary fountain at the base for dogs.
Darcy said keeping the spirit of the original memorial alive was "key" to the new fountain. "We wanted a memory of what the air force association has done here, with something that's again functional," he said.
Darcy said that the shape of the new fountain reminded him of a bent aircraft propeller he had seen on the Kokoda Track in 1985 when he was on an army exercise.
The new fountain replaces the original which was installed in 1960 as a permanent memorial to the fallen members of the association. Over the past 20 years the original fountain fell into disrepair and became non-operational.
The fountain was completed with the aid of the Greater Taree City Council, MidCoast Water, Department of Veteran Affairs and the fountain's manufacturer, Street Furniture.
The water fountain is the latest in a series of upgrades that the Taree RSL Sub-branch has completed in conjunction with Greater Taree City over the last two years.
These works have included cleaning and restoration of the clock tower and surrounding plinth, work to reduce water damage to the base, placement of a new balustrade and repainting of existing balustrade and all metal work on the clock tower, improved safe access to the memorial plinth and the construction of a memorial walkway linking the clock memorial to the memorial columns as part of the Centenary of Anzac Commemoration.
