The wet play area will soon be covered with two large shade sails and Nabiac Swimming Pool Committee is working to try to get it built before summer.

Earlier this year the committee applied to the NSW Cancer Institute's Shade Provision Grant for funding and their proposal secured $25,400 according to Laura Pennington.

Work is set to start as soon as the committee can secure the services of a structural engineer and decide when to close the pool to enable work to begin.

Laura says the construction process will require the pool to be closed for about a week.

The shade sails will be a welcome addition to the pool facilities which opened for community use last year.

This will be its second season and Laura says the impact of the pool on the community is "almost indescribable".

"The pool is amazing. It's almost indescribable the impact it has had on our community," she said.

"It's going to keep people in Nabiac and bring people to Nabiac. It's bringing tourist dollars - people travel here to go for a swim and then visit our local shops and cafes - it's wonderful."
