THE Westpac Banking Corporation's in-store agency at Wingham Newsagency closed last Friday, four months after the announcement to close 147 rural Westpac in-store agencies was made.

In May Westpac advised its customers they could do their banking at Australia Post outlets or by using online or phone banking or the Bent Street ATM at L J Hooker.
Alternatively customers could travel to the Taree branch.
Since then Wingham Newsagency staff have been inundated with cards and even flowers, thanking them for their many years of banking service.
All staff will retain positions within the newsagency but the mood was sombre when the closed sign went up on the bank counter.
"Everyone has been really kind," said Margaret Smith.
"Some customers said they would change banks but not until we closed which was nice.
"It is very sad," she added.
