This will be the first induction since 2010 when Troy Bayliss, Des West, Anthony Avery, Nick Gates and Danny Buderus were recognised.
The hall of fame was inaugurated in 2000 and 31 athletes have since been inducted.
Council is likely to call for nominations from the public before deciding on candidates for the next induction.
Cr Alan Tickle and Cr Brad Christensen will be council's representative on the working party along with mayor Paul Hogan. Potential candidates must meet strict criteria to gain entry into hall of fame. Among other things candidates must be retired from the highest level of the sport they participate in, although they can still be actively involved. Troy Bayliss, for example, is still racing motor bikes but no longer rides in the World Superbikes, where he won three championships.
"At the conclusion of the 2010 event the working party recommended that future events be scheduled based on the availability of suitable candidates rather than a fixed two year time frame,'' this week's council meeting was told.
