This is the third-year-in-a-row the school has had teams in the final four. Taree West girls finished third in 2013 and the boys third in 2014.
This year's teams have shown amazing character and determination to go all the way in the tournament - something the school hasn't achieved since the girls were State champions in 2006.
The girls have defeated Chatham PS, Tinonee PS, Soldiers Point PS and Red Head PS to become Hunter champions. They then played against the Northern Sydney champion, Harbord PS. This was a nail-biting game with the scores locked at 2-2 at the end of normal time. Extra time was then played many times to determine the outcome. During extra time, both teams had to drop players from the field and it was golden goal to win. At the conclusion of the game, both teams were down to five-a-side. Taree West prevailed to score the final deciding goal
The boys downed Soldiers Point PS, Hastings PS, Maitland PS and New Lambton PS. The match against New Lambton was extremely close with Taree West PS holding onto a one goal lead for most of the match. With 10 minutes to go New Lambton forwards attacked the goal and Taree West's determined defence held the opposition at bay. The boys won to become Hunter champions and gain direct entry into the finals.
The girls will play Bletchington and then either Ben Venue or Harrington on Tuesday while the boys meet Parkes and then either Tamworth or Illawong.
