THE Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has airlifted a 68-year-old man from Bar Beach this morning after he suffered suspected spinal injuries while body surfing.

It is suspected that the man suffered the injuries when he was dumped by the surf at about 8am this morning.
He was flown to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
