The event is also an exhibition of all disciplines available at the club and consists of 25 target skeet, 25 target trap handicap, 25 target tower and 25 target Olympic trap.
In the first round of skeet new shooter David Frost impressed early with his personal best of 22/25 to tie with Kerry Bourke and Dave Berry. However they were eclipsed by sporting clay shooter Craig Dargan, who sat on the top of the table with 23/25.
The second round was 25 trap handicap with handicap specialist Peter Ryan top scoring with 21/25, closely followed by Craig Dargan with 20/25 to increase his lead in the overall standings.
With the wind dropping back a little and the skies clearing the 25 tower event began. All eyes were looking up in search of the targets flying from the top of the 10m tower. Club junior shooter Clayton Smith exceeded his own expectations by scoring 18/25 in a discipline very foreign to him and the smile could not be wiped from his face.
Ken Wile looked to have top scored with 22/25 until Craig Dargan yet again top scored with an impressive 24/25 almost guaranteeing victory in the overall standings. Final event was 25 target Olympic trap, the fastest and arguably most difficult event of the day.
The speed was too great for most shooters with only three able to make double figures. Phil Baker dominated the event hitting the 100km plus clay targets well by scoring 21/25. Baker and Kerry Bourke (12/25) were most likely to put the pressure on Craig Dargan for overall honours.
The pressure was telling with Dargan not hitting the fast moving targets until his 10th shot and finished the Olympic Games disipline with 8/25.
Once the scores were totalled the championship went to Dargan by the narrowest of margins of one single point over Bourke.
Baker was third overall with Gary Pascoe and David Berry rounding out the top five.
Next Sunday from 11am Taree Wingham Clay Target Club will host a novelty sporting clay shoot and welcome anyone wanting to have a go.
