The Bulls beat Wauchope 10-4 in the grand final played at Port Macquarie.
Taree looked set for a comfortable day when Jennifer Silcock beat the defence and showed pace to sprint 50 metres to open the scoring for the day with a try. Rhiannon Fuller was on target with the conversion and Taree led 6-0.
Player of the match Jenna Rowsell then threw a dummy and stepped through the line to post Taree's second try and even though Fuller missed the goal attempt, the Bulls were sitting comfortably at 10-0.
But the match changed from there. Wauchope dominated field position for the rest of the half and hammered the Taree line. The Bulls were aided by some injudicious kicking in general play from Wauchope which relieved pressure.
Taree stood firm for the remainder of the half and trotted off with a 10-0 lead intact. With the wind at their backs in the second half Taree looked a safe bet.
But that's not how it turned out. Wauchope continued to dominate field position in the second stanza.
On the few occasions when the Bulls had the ball they weren't making much of an impression. In fact Taree only made it into the Wauchope quarter once in the second half following a penalty. Then they dropped the ball on the first tackle.
Taree's kicking game was also poor with quicksilver Wauchope fullback Larissa Ward was given too much space to counter attack.
The Blues finally turned pressure into points when Ward slipped through two defenders to touchdown under the posts. However, Wauchope captain Belinda Anderson missed the conversion, giving Taree the six point cushion.
The Blues continued to attack the tiring defensive line. With less than two minutes remaining it appeared Wauchope had found a chink in the armour, but Rowsell produced a great diving tag that probably saved a try and secured Taree the title.
This was Taree's first grand final appearance in league tag since the competition's inception in Group Three in 2009.
"Some of us have been trying for seven years and we've finally won one,'' captain Brooke Murray said at the presentation.
"We made a lot of mistakes but we got there in the end,'' player of the match Rowsell added.
Taree City 10 (Jennifer Silcock, Jenna Rowsell tries, Rhiannon Fuller goal) defeated Wauchope 4 (Larissa Ward try).
