A NEW church will be built in Cundletown if Greater Taree City Council gives the green light to a development application.

A small community of families who live in the Taree, Port Macquarie and Forster areas seek to fund the construction of a Taree Coptix Orthodox Church at a cost of more than $740,000.
The development application proposes that a church and hall building be built on the corner of Main and Victoria Streets in Cundletown.
According to a spokesperson for the community, Dr Moheb Ghaly of Taree, the community “currently hires a hall to pray.”
Dr Ghaly says Coptix Orthodox is a Christian-based religion with its origins in Eygpt.
“It’s one of the first churches and was founded by St Mark around 43 AD. The term Coptic is derived from the Greek ‘Aigyptos’ meaning ‘Egyptian’,” he explained.
Land at 89 Main Street is the proposed location for the church and hall and the buildings are designed by Austin McFarland Architects in Wingham.
Greater Taree City Council recently advertised the development proposal for public comment and is calling for public submissions to be received at council by September 4.
