The Melbourne Cup-winning jockey will head south in search of his 50th group 1 after riding Srikandi to the final two group 1 victories of last season in the Stradbroke and Tatt's Tiara.

"It is pretty significant to get to 50 group 1s and I have been aware that I was getting close for a while," McEvoy said. "I had a good end to last season and hopefully I can keep it going.

"It would be a nice way if I can get it done on a horse like Hi World because we are not sure where he sits going into the spring. He could be ready to step up to another level.

"He won some nice races like the Carbine Club [Stakes] and Frank Packer [Plate] at the end of his last preparation but they are a step below the top level and against his own age.

"He has furnished into a really nice horse and he really developed into himself.

"I'm unsure if he is a group 1 horse and we are going to find out a bit more about him on Saturday."

McEvoy will link with the Peter Moody-trained four-year-old entire in the Memsie Stakes on the back of winning for the stable on Amelie's Star at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

"I have been riding a bit of work there, it is nice these opportunities," McEvoy said.

Hi World has prepared in Sydney  for his return and went to Melbourne a week ago for the final part of his preparation where McEvoy played his role.

"I rode him in both his trials, the first was quiet and then he was good last time when he ran second to Vancouver. He is ready to run a good race at 1400 metres first-up, but he will get better as we step up in distance. I'm very happy with him fitness wise," McEvoy said.

Hi World is part of a full book of rides for McEvoy in Melbourne, highlighted by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Giulietta, Cosmic Endeavour and Excess Knowledge as well as talented sprinter Bounding for Peter and Paul Snowden.

"I think Bounding is a fairly smart mare and is ready to run a good race," McEvoy said. "The good thing about it is I have ridden a lot of these horses before and know them very well. I have won on Excess Knowledge and Cosmic Endeavour.

"It makes a difference and adds to your confidence."

Waterhouse, who scored with Flamboyant Lass at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, believes Excess Knowledge and Cosmic Endeavour are well placed at Caulfield.

"I thought Excess Knowledge was outstanding first-up and I think the extra trip should be right up his alley," she said.

"We could have run Cosmic Endeavour in the group 1, but she is very well serviced by the weights in the handicap as a group 1 winner only being four kilos over the limit.

"I think she will very hard to beat on those conditions."

Meanwhile Danny Beasley will miss up to month after he suffered a broken rib and partially collapsed lung at the Hawkesbury barrier trials on Monday.

Beasley rode at Gosford on Tuesday but felt uncomfortable and went to a doctor on Wednesday and was stood down from riding.  A scan confirmed his the seriousness of his injuries.
