The latest meeting on August 18 held at Ormsby House, had around 45 in attendance, with 30 of those signing up as members and 8 of those offering themselves to be part of the management committee.
Judy Hollingworth, a certified palliative care volunteer and convener of the meeting said the second meeting included ready input from the crowd who offered their experiences with palliative care and thoughts on how the group should operate and what it could provide.
Notes of the meeting are now being circulated to people who have already applied to become members and anyone else who is interested in joining.
People who would like to see the provision of palliative services in our area strengthened and see this group succeed are invited to attend the next meeting and to apply to join the group.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday September 8 from 6pm to 8pm at Valley Skills for Life meeting room, 5-9 Elizabeth Street, Taree..
This meeting will focus on what the group is going to work on and what it should prioritise, once formalities in becoming a community association have been completed. These include forming a management committee, nominating and electing office bearers, accepting the membership applications received to date and any further applications they receive that evening, and other governance work.
