A 29-year-old man was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle north on The Lakes Way when he was hit from behind about 4.45pm on Wednesday
He was seriously injured and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
The offending driver failed to stop and police began their investigations.
Acting on information provided by a member of the public on social media investigators attended a business in Carrington on Friday.
There a 37-year-old man was identified and arrested. A white Holden utility was also found with damage and was seized for forensic examination.
The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and later charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm.
He has been granted bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, September 3, 2015.
The injured man remains in an induced come with fractures to his pelvis, sternum, femur, pubic bone and multiple hand and leg injuries. He remains in an induced coma.
