Applications close on Sunday, August 9 for the position of Lower Mid North Coast Sector Manager and it is a role that will be central to the successful management of processes involved in the future redevelopment of Manning Hospital.
Not that long ago the position was titled 'general manager' and in recent years the office was held by Roz Everingham and Tricia Bulic.
Ms Everingham had the top job at Manning Hospital for about 15 months before returning to the role of deputy service manager of medicine at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
Tricia Bulic stepped into the role mid-way through 2012 and then out of it in January this year to hand the task of managing the hospital to Jodi Nieass, the director of nursing and midwifery.
Mrs Nieass has worked in the role of acting general manager since that time.
"While the position has been vacant, Hunter New England Health has taken the opportunity to look for improvements that could be made to the management structure to benefit patient care," according to Ms Karen Kelly executive director of greater metropolitan health services.
"The new general manager position will oversee acute hospital and community health services on the Lower Mid North Coast and will be known as the Lower Mid North Coast Sector Manager.
"This is among some senior management reporting line changes being made to executive portfolio responsibilities within Hunter New England Health to improve integration between acute hospital and community health services.
"There will be no change to the services provided to patients or the roles of our clinicians, who provide a valuable service to the community," Ms Kelly explained.
The new role calls for applicants who are looking to bring together all their skills in human resources, finance, governance and health care.
The position description asks, "Looking for an opportunity to flex your outstanding leadership and management skills in a health care environment? Come and be responsible for planning, development, implementation, evaluation and operational management of services across the Lower Mid North Coast."
The purpose of the position is to "lead and manage the overall planning, development, implementation and evaluation of services for the lower Mid North Coast sector to ensure the efficient, effective and timely delivery of health care services to the community served by this sector. The general manager holds overall responsibility and accountability for the operational management of the lower Mid North Coast Sector and for providing leadership and direction to ensure services are delivered consistently to every patient every time. The general manager must also promote the general health of the population and is fully accountable for the overall management, policies and planning of the facilities within the sector."
