Some anglers went out as far as the shelf in search of larger fish but the current was a bit strong. Six hour rounds of fishing were contested on Saturday and Sunday with the weigh-ins at 2pm each day. Clubs from the South Coast, Central Coast, Sydney Metro and Western Sydney along with local Mid North Coast anglers attended and caught a total of 863 fish for a weight of 718.2kg. Quality snapper, teraglin, pearl perch, bar cod and yellowtail kingfish were caught and weighed along with flathead and mixed reef fish.
Heaviest snapper went 8.42kg caught by Terry York of the Central Coast. Heaviest kingfish was 8.34kg caught by Kevin Buchan from Berry. Most species was 11 caught by Mitch Sanders of the Central Coast who also was the men’s and open champion weighing a total of 65 fish for 50.08kg The South Coast team of Rod Burston, Kevin Simpson, Geoff Eurell and Ryan Eurell won the men’s and open team event with 94 fish for 147kg. Renee Ferguson from Port Macquarie was the women’s champion with 35 fish for 17.10kg. Marlene Eurell from Gerringong was the veteran women’s champion with Rod Burston from Kiama the veteran male champion. Kevin Buchan from Berry was the super veteran champion.
A few large whales provided
