Taree Wingham Race Club chairman Greg Coleman has secured the help of Racing NSW to classify the $60,000 Cup over 2000m a “Saddle Up Sunday” meeting which means significant publicity will be given to the meeting boasting prizemoney of at least $172,000, plus trophies.
Also, sponsor for the cup has gone to Taree business Stacks Law Firm which is bound to attract widespread support.
Raceday packages at $39.50 a person are still available for day one of the carnival.
Added this year to entertainment on Saturday, August 22, is a lunchtime Manning River cruise for visitors and locals, it costing $35 which includes lunch and refreshments.
The Stacks Law Firm Taree Gold Cup Calcutta will be held at the Winning Post Function Centre on Saturday night and this includes a three-course meal and a surprise guest speaker, it to be announced possibly in the next week.
At the Calcutta dinner there will also bean auction of a service fee to Oxley Island Thoroughbreds new young stallion Power More with proceeds going to local charity.
Raceday packages for cup day, which include entry to the Winning Post Function Centre overlooking the track, a complimentary racebook, a special three-course luncheon, welcoming wine and reserved seating costs only $55 per person with bookings for all events available by ringing 6552 1183.
Support from trainers with gallopers which raced last Friday could be indicative of plenty of interest in the time-honoured 2000m Cup and its colour, splendour,and entertainment as Taree’s biggest social event.
