Le Tour de Taree is the Club Taree community team's tribute to le Tour de France, and as such mirrors the event in both distance and time.
The idea of le Tour de Taree was conceived during a creative planning meeting, when while talking about worldwide events in July, a reference was made to le Tour de France.
The club decided it would be a great idea to develop le Tour de Taree, deciding to support the Ronald McDonald House Northern NSW, and the ambitious target of raising $20,000 for the charity was set.
Staff began riding in the Club Taree members lounge on Saturday, July 4, and will continue through until the "tour" finishes on Sunday July 26.
The greatest challenge is the distance, with the team having a joint target of 3344 kilometres, the same distance as le Tour de France.
The team took their challenge to Taree City Central shopping centre yesterday in a bid to raise funds near the end of their task.
Club Taree's brand and communications manager Paul Allan said that the participation of 25 staff in the race was a proud achievement for the club.
"The staff have been happy to get involved, it's been great to see everyone get on board," Paul said.
As part of Club Taree's engagement with Ronald McDonald House Northern NSW some of the Club Taree Community members also participated last week in the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat Make a Meal Program, which sees local businesses and their staff help make meals for families using the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat facilities at Forster.
