Council's Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) now works under Informed Adaption, a flexible management framework which allows landowners and community groups to take their own measures to combat coastline erosion issues.
Previously, land owners were severely restricted in what they could do to manage coastal issues impacting their land.
Helen Hardes owns a property in one of the worst erosion affected areas in Old Bar.
She said that council's flexible attitude towards the issue helped landowners in the area facing the problem.
Lewis Street in Old Bar is one of the worst impacted streets, with several property owners already losing sections of their land due to erosion.
Helen said council was accommodating of local opinion on the matter, with small group information sessions and one on one question and answers helping with the development of the CZMP.
Helen, who is a member of Coastcare, said that the changes were a positive move for homeowners in the area, and said that they were closely watching the current situation in Byron Bay, where coastal erosion is a problem as well.
"I feel that the proposed CZMP gives hope to the affected home owners," Helen said.
"I feel that it could be the catalyst for a new beginning. It's better than doing nothing."
