Amy Anderson competed as one of 10 of the best apprentices from NSW and ACT at the butchering facility at Granville TAFE on June 22 and 23.
Competitors were judged over five areas, namely theory, trade calculations, essay writing, interview and practical.
The awards were sponsored jointly by Neild and Co and the Australian Meat Industry Council.
Amy called the achievement "a proud moment" for her and her family.
She will be recognised at a State dinner to be held at Port Macquarie on September 12, before then representing NSW/ACT in the national competition, which will be held early next year in Queensland.
Amy attended Wollongong West TAFE and in addition to the above award, was named Wollongong West TAFE's student of the year.
"The training I got there was exemplary," Amy said of TAFE.
Amy mentioned the support of her family as crucial to her success at the championships.
"It wouldn't really have been possible without family support," said Amy.
With two children, aged eight and nine, and a husband who works in the mining industry, combined with her studies and work at the Tinonee Family Butchery, Amy has plenty to keep her busy.
"It's a juggling act, but the family really helps out."
