"THE main thing for me is to make sure that it gets up and going." The words of member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead bode well for the momentum the community seeks in the campaign to ensure the NSW government delivers its $20 million promise to fund stage one of the Manning Hospital redevelopment.
Mr Bromhead last week toured the electorate to talk to members of the community and the Manning River Times claimed time with him as he stood in sunshine on Wingham Central Park.
Mr Bromhead again reiterated the NSW government's commitment to its pre-election promise to Manning Hospital and stated that the outcome of his recent meeting with NSW health minister, Jillian Skinner was the assurance that "stage one will be delivered in this term of government."
"Stage one is consultation with the stakeholders, the nurses, the doctors, the people who work there as to exactly what they want in stage one, stage two and stage three," Mr Bromhead explained.
"In stage one, we will do the plans for stage one, stage two and stage three. We will do the costings for stage two and three because we already know what the costings are for stage one.
"Stage one will include a sub-ground level carpark, a new oncology unit and it will include a new renal dialysis unit. We will also move the front of the hospital over from York Street back in to High Street.
"The reason that this is important is that rather than people walking through all different areas and corridors to get to things like day care, day operations, ambulatory care, xray - that sort of thing - by having it in High Street, all of those things will be at the front of the hospital so they don't have to go through the hospital.
"Also included in stage one is moving administration from the old nurses quarters on the corner of York and Commerce Streets over to the front of the hospital so that administration has the finger on the pulse of what is happening.
"The planning work for the three stages, as in the architect plans, engineer specifications and all those things are also all included in the prepatory work which is all part of stage one.
"The main thing for me is to make sure that it gets up and going."
