More than 60 residents and friends of the village attended the afternoon, which marked 20 years since the opening in 1995.
Several special guests attended, including the original chairman of the village and director of the board, with "both getting a buzz seeing the village," according to event organiser Margaret McDonald.
Original occupants of Banyula Village Gwen Deans, Eveleyn Pederson and Dudley Halliday all gave speeches which were warmly received.
Singer Caitlin Cameron provided entertainment, with renditions of a variety of songs.
Doris Tickle cut the commemorative cake, and Margaret said the day couldn't have gone any better.
"The sun shone for us," she said.
Photos of the village from the past 20 years were on display, with many visitors remarking at how quickly the time had passed since the village's foundation.
"People didn't realise how fast 20 years went by," Margaret said.
The event was aided by the Heart Moves exercise group.
